Maccabees Interview.

Maccabees Interview.

January 30, 2010 |  by Richard

Carys McMorran caught up with Hugo White from The Maccabees!
below is what happend.

ps: Richard is to blame for the one ‘c’ in the title picture, idiot.

How does it feel headlining such a highly regarded tour after growing up reading NME yourselves?

Yeah it’s obviously great, like seeing Arctic Monkeys play it and other great bands do it, it’s something that’s a highlight for us.

You’re playing with local success stories Two Door Cinema Club and Panama Kings in Belfast; do you like to keep an eye out for up and coming bands?

Yeah, we listen to a lot of new bands and we’re always interested in who we play with and we play a big part in who we play with. We’ve heard a lot about these guys and it’ll be great to hear them live and get to play with them.

It’s been demonstrated on YouTube that Maccabees aren’t very good at happy slap (Orlando lost to Jack Penate) and tug of war (whole band lost to four girls). Do any of you have unusual skills or party tricks to make up for this?

Hahah wow, yeah, we didn’t even pretend to get beat, that was real. The girls really beat us, pretty bad. Last year I spent a lot of time working on music, but also learning to juggle. I’m not great, but I can do it, surly that’s a skill?!

Your video for the single ‘Can You Give It’ consists of people running down a hill chasing after a wheel of cheese, so to finish off with that generic question…what’s your favorite cheese?

Haha yeah, ok.. emmm.. I don’t know how to say it.. S… c..ummm.. Yeah, maybe you can find it online or something haha. It’s a bit like Brie, but better. It’s lighter. You should try it haha.

(after the interview i searched for this cheese, i could not find the cheese, there is way too much cheese)

Don’t forget about our amazing competition to win tickets to see them in Mandella Hall With Two Door Cinema Club & Panama Kings!!! It closes in a couple of days!
