Searching online as i tend to do a lot these days, i came across Cato Andrews. I found a link to her Deviantart profile and was blew away by her work. I asked if we could show off some of her work and if she’d give us an insight into how she got involved with this style of art.
“I’m a 20 year old student, studying Fashion and Interior design at the Belfast Metropolitan College. As much as I love fashion design, manga illustration is my first love.
I started drawing manga when I was around 13 after being introduced to the art style by a friend. Like any other geek, I’d scribble characters from my favourite anime series on the top of test papers, dreaming of being half as talented as the professional folks I’d come across online. I still do. Only now, I’ve moved on from little scribbles that go nowhere.
In late 2006, I invested in a cheap graphics tablet and an old version of Photoshop. Mimicking the techniques of artists I followed online, I began to digitally ink and colour my scanned sketches. After a few years, a few breakdowns, and a few editions of Photoshop, I’ve begun to produce work that actually sells at conventions such as Q-Con in Belfast and have been lucky enough to have been featured in an Asian entertainment magazine, Neo.
Hopefully 2010 will bring even more success my way but, until then, feel free to visit my online gallery at http://www.kitty-cato.deviantart.com/. Say hi!”
Here is a selection of Cato’s work! Beyond awesome!
