A is for An Awesome Line-Up
This year’s line-up is being hailed as the strongest ever seen in Northern Ireland. And it’s not hard to see why…
Day 1: Foo Fighters/The Black Keys/The Cribs/The Minutes/Trucker Diablo
Day 2: The Stone Roses/Florence + The Machine/Rodrigo Y Gabriela/Maverick Sabre/ Gerard i2
Tickets for both days are on sale now from ticketmaster.ie
B is for The Black Keys
The Black Keys are unquestionably one of the hottest bands in the world right now. They’ve just headlined some of America’s biggest festivals and their two most recent singles Lonely Boy and Gold On The Ceiling have been global hits.
C is for Comeback Kings
The Stone Roses headline performance on Day 2 will be the last date on their record breaking reunion tour. The band’s ‘live resurrection’ is being hailed as the most successful comeback in musical history.
D is for Diablo
Hard rocking guitar heroes Trucker Diablo open Day 1 of the festival. The Moira based band are thrilled about the chance to play on the same stage as US rock royalty Foo Fighters and The Black Keys.
E is for Everlong
When Tennent’s Vital fans were polled about the song they most wanted to hear Foo Fighters perform, Everlong came out the clear winner. Expect one massive sing-along when Foos play this one…
F is for Foo Fighters
US Rock gods Foo Fighters make their long awaited Northern Irish debut at Day 1 of Tennent’s Vital. Most recent album ‘Wasting Light’ went straight to No.1 in 12 countries and at the 2012 Grammys, they walked away with 5 awards, taking their all-time total to 11.
G is for Getting There
Translink is providing special late night return coach and train services for fans travelling to Tennent’s Vital with services operating right across the province. Tickets should be purchased in advance from www.translink.co.uk/tennentsvital.
H is for Hip Hop’s rising new star
Strabane isn’t a place that you’d necessarily associate with cutting edge Hip Hop music but that’s about to change with the emergence of rising rapper Gerard i2. He’s already won much acclaim for his blunt, honest lyrics and has picked up support from BBC Radio 1Xtra.
I is for Ian Brown
The Stone Roses singer has enjoyed a very successful solo career with 14 UK Top 40 hits. His unique style and swagger spawned a whole host of imitators in the 90s’s but Brown remains one of the most iconic frontmen of all time.
J is for Jessica Ennis
Olympic gold medallists Jessica Ennis and Bradley Wiggins enjoyed a taste of the rock n roll lifestyle when they attended a secret gig by The Stone Roses in London last Monday. Jessica said: “I had to come tonight. I think they’re brilliant.” Lead singer Ian Brown announced the athletes’ appearance at the show to the crowd – deeming Jessica and Bradley the ‘real King and Queen of England’.
K is for Kindness
Tennent’s: Vital Acts of Kindness is our way of thanking ticket holders for being the best crowd around and gives fans the chance to win some fantastic experiences at this year’s festival. Visit the Tennent’s Bar onsite or watch out for our team roaming the festival for a chance to win!
L is for Let’s Go
Maverick Sabre stormed the charts last summer with the anthemic single ‘Let Me Go’ and followed that up with the brilliant debut album ‘Lonely Are The Brave’ which reached No.2 in the UK and No.3 in Ireland. The London born, Irish raised singer is one of music’s fastest rising stars.
M is for Mayfield Leisure Centre
Belfast’s Mayfield Leisure Centre was the venue when The Stone Roses last played here in 1990. And Ian Brown has fond memories of the night:
“There was another great one we did in Belfast, at the Mayfield Leisure Centre. I always remember there was a little kid, about five or six, on someone’s shoulders, and we were loving that. He was a little toddler on someone’s shoulders, singing along.”
We like to think that that little boy, now about 28, will be in the audience singing his heart out at this year’s festival.
N is for Nirvana
Foo Fighters haven’t played Northern Ireland but Dave Grohl was here over 20 years ago when Nirvana played a now legendary set at The Kings Hall in Belfast in 1992.
O is for Obama
Mexican guitar virtuosos Rodrigo Y Gabriela had the unique honour of being invited to play for President Obama and his wife Michelle at a special state dinner in The White House in 2010. The other artist to perform that night was Beyoncé!
P is for Primal Scream
This won’t be the first time that Stone Roses bassist Mani has played Tennent’s Vital. Back in 2002, his old band Primal Scream were the festival’s very first headliners.
Q is for Queens of The Stone Age
The multi-talented Mr Grohl has played with over 30 bands during his illustrious career including Queens of The Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails, Tenacious D, Them Crooked Vultures and he’s even guested with David Bowie and P Diddy.
R is for Riders
Last year, the festival made international headlines when it was rumored that Eminem had asked for a pond with a couple of expensive Koi Carp fish to be installed outside his dressing room! Foo Fighters are also known for their bizarre tongue in cheek riders which in the past have included a special recipe for ice and a copy of chick flick movie ‘The Notebook’ on DVD.
S is for Spectrum
Florence + The Machine’s first No.1 single has dominated the airwaves this summer spending three weeks at the summit of the UK charts.
T is for Tennent’s
Tennent’s Lager has a rich heritage in supporting live music. As well as creating Tennent’s Vital for Northern Ireland’s music mad fans they co-founded Scotland’s T In The Park nearly 20 years ago. The annual festival attracts over 80,000 people and some of the best bands in the world.
U is for UnTapped
Earlier this year, Tennent’s UnTapped was launched to give up and coming local musicians the chance to perform at Tennent’s Vital. Over 250 acts entered and following a series of exciting live showcases in May, the judging panel of music industry experts chose Trucker Diablo and Gerard i2 to open the festival on each day.
V is for Vital
The very first Tennent’s Vital was held back in 2002 at Botanic Gardens in Belfast and quickly established a reputation for bringing some of the biggest bands in the world to Northern Ireland. Among the artists to grace the festival have been Kings of Leon, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Faithless, Kasabian and The White Stripes.
W is for Warren,Ohio
Warren, Ohio is the birthplace of Foo Fighters lead singer Dave Grohl. So proud are locals of MR Grohl’s many achievements that they named a road in the town in his honour, ‘Dave Grohl Alley’. Last month, further tribute was paid when a pair of gigantic 900lb drumsticks were erected in the alley in Dave’s honour.
X is for X-Rated
The Cribs breakthrough single ‘Men’s Needs’ was chosen by NME as the third best single of 2007. However, it was the accompanying video, featuring a nude woman trashing the band’s instruments that caused some controversy! The video was banned on MTV 2 but that didn’t stop it clocking up over 6.5million YouTube views.
Y is for You Got The Love
Florence + The Machine’s cover of Candi Staton’s 1986 disco classic propelled the band to international stardom in 2009, spending an incredible 30 weeks in the UK Top 30 and becoming Florence’s first ever Top Ten hit. Flo loves the reaction it gets: “playing it live and seeing everyone’s arms in the air, and the faces – it’s the best feeling ever!”
Z if for Zhing-zhang
It’s well known that Foo Fighters like to limber up for their marathon rock sets with a game or two of ‘Zhing-zhang’. Here’s Mr Grohl extolling the joys of ping pong: “We got the ping-pong table on the road. There’s nothing wrong with a little zhing-zhang now and again. We’re big on it. There’s no better way to warm up for a show than a nice five or six-game tournament. It gets your hand-eye going; you break a sweat.” Now where can we get hold of a table…
