He’s Famous on the Internet So He Is?!!

pyropuncher

Panic Dot’s got the chance to speak with someone who has experienced internet fame. Paul McCrory from East Belfast is better known to nearly 200,000 of his subscribers as Pyropuncher. With 38 million video views (3 – 4 million per month) Paul is quite the the local success story.

When and why did you start making Youtube videos?

“I started making videos in August 2008. I had been active on YouTube from early 2007 and had begun watching Call of Duty videos in order to get better at the game. Wanting to try my hand at this seeing as I was moderately good at the game, in 2008 I purchased a Standard Definition Capture Card and began uploading gameplay daily to my youtube channel. Soon later a few people began doing commentary over the gameplay giving insight, tips and jokes. A little shy to begin and sceptical I held off for about a month or two until everyone was asking me to do it within my video comments. So it began and 3 years later here I am.”

How long does it take to finish one video on average?

“When I first started it took me about 2-3 hours overall. The basic process is recording footage, commentating over it within a video editing program (Mine is Sony Vegas) and then rendering the video and uploading it. Usually I’d have to do a few takes of the commentary. Now over time I’ve got a more powerful computer and better upload speed so rendering the video and uploading it doesn’t take as long. My commentating has improved also so there isn’t as many cuts. A video now would usually take me about 1hr 30min”

Would you like to make videos full time?

“No I am currently at University studying Computer Science. I just did it as a hobby and even though the money is there I still treat it like one. I don’t like being enforced to upload videos everyday so if I’m not feeling it, I won’t upload”

What do you do when you are not making videos?

“It changes all the time. Right now I’m proper geeking out and learning how to code in Java. I always like driving about in my car too.”

What is the weirdest experience involving you and a subscriber?

“Multiple people have recognised me on a night out. One night when I was really drunk some guy bought me 5 shots of vodka and I threw up on him.”

Grand Theft Auto V Trailer

gtav-trailer

Rockstar games have a history of bringing us some of the best and innovative games, as well as those that make all self respecting adults and parents shake their heads in disgust. After an extended period of absence, presumably to give us a chance to work our way through the engrossing L.A. Noire, they’re back with an all new Grand Theft Auto title.

Details have remained sketchy, and a week ago Rockstar games announced on their twitter account that the trailer would be released on November 2nd. #GTAV will likely maintain the tradition of the game operating in an open world environment, with great options for interaction with the city’s inhabitants: the shopkeepers, the pedestrians, the drivers, the mobs, the women… All the things that have been developed over the years since GTA was initially launched way back in 1997. With all things going to plan, GTAV looks like it’ll hit the online shelves in 2012, 15 years after we played the first 2D top-down action-adventure game.

The trailer will go live below at 4pm GMT.

Excited much? We are!
